Grilling Season!

Grilling season is in full swing. If you're not excited yet, just read this post and check out our Food Network Grilling Feature. Then, plan a trip to The Home Depot, because grilling is about to make your life better. Here are just a few ways how:

1. Grilling is a team sport - Usually one person bears the load in meal preparation, but everyone pitches in around the grill. Don't worry, we have dessert covered!

2. Grilling is healthy - Butter doesn't mix well with fire, but veggies and lean meats do! (Marshmallows are fat free too!)

3. Grilling is relaxed - Sit back, watch the fireflies, get sticky fingers, don't even think about touching that phone.

4. Grilling is natural - Food is better with fire. In fancy kitchens they refer to the Maillard reaction for proteins and Caramelization for sweets - it's when heat brings out and browns food's natural sugars to create deep, toasty flavors. Usually there are a lot of appliances and equipment in the way, but with grilling it's pure, direct GBD (golden brown deliciousness). See what I mean?

5. Grilling keeps you warm - As the temperature drops, memories of warm nights and glowing coals will keep you going until the next grilling season comes around. If you're really feeling the withdrawal, you can always try griddling. It's almost as good.

Planning Hard, Playing Harder

From the moment Malvi Marshmallow Confections began last December, we knew we wanted to join up with The Not Wedding . Besides throwing fantastic parties, the girls behind The Not Wedding care about finding quality, local vendors to help brides and grooms plan an amazing wedding day that will launch joyful, thriving marriages. They do all this by hosting a fake wedding where "wedding guests" are brides-to-be, the featured couple are actually married and renewing vows, and we vendors get to share our best wedding offerings while also enjoying the festivities.

This year's Atlanta Not Wedding event was hosted at the W Hotel in Buckhead (yes, it was that swanky).

We designed and created a dessert table featuring Malvi flavors with emeralds, magenta gems, and dusky gold stones to match the "jewel and light" theme and to highlight our all-natural ingredients like fresh dewy raspberries and sparkling green mint.

It was the perfect occasion to introduce our *new* Mini Malvis, which are now available for custom catering orders! The single-bite Malvis were small enough to allow guests to try all flavors. Joy!

All guests took home a Malvi favor box in their swag bag as a reminder of the amazing night.

Malvi Marshmallow Confections Wedding Favors at The Not Wedding

The Not Wedding exceeded its glittering reputation. The highlight of the night was a surprise flash mob engagement (we're hoping someone posts a video!). We were thrilled to meet so many excited brides-to-be and to hear their reactions to Malvi - so encouraging! We also loved getting to know fellow small businesses and were so impressed their amazing, lovingly made offerings. Hannah from the Brown Bag Soap Company wowed us with her soaps and candles made from Sweetwater hops and inspired by classic cocktails (the Gin and Tonic was my favorite - I can't wait for the soap version!). Liz from  graciously designed adorable mini banners and flags for our display (see the "joy" banner below). Lindsay Coletta's flower artistry blew me away, and I can't wait to work with her on future events. Everyone did a phenomenal job to put on a remarkable event. I'm sure The Not Wedding effect will multiply and lead to many perfect days for the brides of Atlanta!

Snow Day
A few things are obligatory on snow days: Wool socks, snowmen, naps, and hot chocolate. The last item should be a thick, hearty, celebratory cup, not a thin, quicky Swiss Miss. It doesn't take much time or effort to make superior hot chocolate. You just need to have a few ingredients in your pantry and these simple tricks up your sleeve.
Start with good milk. Whole is preferable, organic if you can afford it. The chocolate should be solid (powder is fine, but give this a try and see if you ever go back). My favorite drinking chocolates are Taza ($$$) and Abuelita ($). Both are Mexican Style, stone ground, and easily break into pieces so you can scale the chocalatey-ness of your drink just the way you like it.
A Mexican  or whisk will add a nice froth while you gently heat the milk and chocolate together in a heavy bottom saucepan. I don't typically add extra flavoring, but sometimes a drop of vanilla, a dash of cinnamon, or perhaps a bay leaf or orange rind infusion will match my mood. I do like to throw in a pinch of salt just before serving.
The final heavenly touch is a halo of homemade marshmallows (you can let us take care of that for you). Then curl up by the fire and enjoy having nothing better to do - as if there was anything better.
#SHARETHEJOY
We're not the first ones to use the #sharethejoy tag, and there are plenty of people using it for non-Malvi purposes. It's a happy place in internet land, it's our company's Mission, and we're happy to be part of it.
We get joy in making Malvi and in giving them, and we hope you get a ton of joy from eating them. If so, add your word, photo, or video to our #sharethejoy collection through your social media outlet of preference. Here are a few of our favorite joy moments.
Marshmallow Research
The tweets started slowly: "Spotted: Oreo's new Marshmallow Crispy Flavors." The next morning there were small headlines, then the social media floodgates opened. The new Oreos don't officially launch until February 3rd, but Nabisco's new marshmallow cookie sandwich is already a success.
While the idea is generating a lot of buzz, mushing marshmallows and cookies together has been done many times, all over the world. A trip to the Buford Highway Farmers Market will take you to candy aisles from Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe and Marshmallows (with and without cookies) are everywhere.
Latin America has the most marshmallow variety and the best mascots. A friendly ghost fronts the marshmallow-strawberry filled Bubu Lubus. Ricolino is a chocolate covered Marshmallow clown face on a stick. My favorite, Mamut, features a wooly mammoth wielding a chocolate covered marshmallow sandwich. I'm not sure what these things have to do with marshmallows, but they're awesome.
Eastern Europe keeps up appearances with simple elegant packaging. They're ready for tea time on the outside but just as fun and sweet on the inside.
I thought I had struck out in the Asian aisle, then came the Hello Kitty Lottepie, followed by a dozen marshmallow flavors - grape, apple,  strawberry - all with bright, cartoon covered packaging. It makes me want to book a trip for further research.
Marshmallows are molded and branded in each country to strike a cord. Nabisco has tickled our collective fancy - combining our favorite dunking cookie with one of the first "recipes" many of us ever made, Rice Krispies.
The recent headlines and my research make me so excited to share Malvi marshmallow sandwiches - a new, all natural, unique interpretation of an internationally beloved treat. They also have given me ideas for our next wave of marshmallow confections...coming soon!
If you have a favorite store-bought marshmallow treat from your childhood or home country, let me know! I'd also love to hear your suggestions for new Malvi items. Tweet, Instagram or Facebook me .
